“John Frum practices a kind of modern ‘stichomancy’ or ‘bibliomancy’ finding an almost spiritual solace in texts culled from marketing, advertising and design documents, and finding wonder in the magic that words are thought to perform upon audiences. Frum’s work is, amongst other things, an exploration of the claims upon our unconscious that the persuasion industries create, or as they put it, “an almanac of hilarious despair, an assortment of the absurd”.
